Welcome To The Principle Trust Children's Charity
Based in Skipton, North Yorkshire, The Principle Trust Children’s Charity exists to support some of Yorkshire’s most vulnerable children and their families by providing free, week-long respite breaks in our fully equipped respite homes.
We work with families facing incredibly difficult circumstances — including mental health challenges, complex medical conditions, disabilities, trauma, abuse bereavement and financial hardship. For many, a holiday is simply out of reach. That’s where we step in.
Our aim is simple but powerful: to provide a safe, welcoming space where families can escape daily pressures, rest, reconnect and make memories that last.
We now own eight respite homes across Blackpool, the Lake District and the Yorkshire coast, including fully accessible properties designed for children and adults with complex needs. Our newest home at Primrose Valley, Filey, helps reduce travel barriers, making our support more accessible to families across East and South Yorkshire.
Each stay is completely free of charge and includes a food hamper, helping to ease financial pressure so families can focus on what matters most – being together.
Since launching in 2011, we’ve supported almost 6,000 children, providing moments of happiness, hope and recovery when they are needed most.
This work is only possible thanks to the generosity of our patrons, fundraisers, volunteers and supporters. Together, we are making memories that last for families who need it most.
We are a Children’s Charity, based in Yorkshire.
We work closely with a trusted network of referring partners across Yorkshire, including local authorities, social services, family centres, schools, hospices and fellow charities – to identify the children and families who would benefit most from a respite break.
And through our 100% donations policy, every penny raised through events and campaigns goes directly towards supporting Yorkshire’s most vulnerable children and their families, helping us continue our mission of making memories that last.
Respite breaks give children and families a chance to step away from the daily pressures of illness, disability or hardship, offering time to rest, recharge and simply enjoy being together. They create positive memories, improve wellbeing and help families return home feeling stronger, more connected and better able to cope.
