Yesterday, charity trustee Simon Thomas took on yet another fundraiser in aid of The Principle Trust Children’s Charity. After completing Miles for Smiles back in April, Simon wasn’t done there as he cracked out his walking shoes this weekend.
Simon Thomas began his Harrogate marathon yesterday morning at 7am sharp – supported by several local shops, cafes, and restaurants. Over 30 businesses have shown valuable support for this fundraiser by showing posters, leaflets and encouraging customers to make donations.
Whilst preparing for this marathon, Simon, 62, said “Over the last decade the Trust has helped thousands of disadvantaged, disabled and poorly children to escape their everyday troubles and create valuable, happy memories. The Trust’s 100% donations policy ensures every penny raised directly benefits children and their families and we are indebted to all the Harrogate businesses who are supporting this fundraising challenge.”
The Trust was lucky enough to give a big cheer and meet Simon on the day. Taking on 26 miles, Hiking Harrogate for Holidays began from the cenotaph on Parliament Street – circumnavigating around the town centre 13 times to reach the target. Joined for the last leg with Sue and Marc Westerman from Westrow (one of our Patrons!), Hiking Harrogate for Holiday’s was completed at around 3pm on the hot Sunday afternoon. Simon readily finished the day to begin a well-earned break!
Due to everyone’s support and Simon’s determination, Hiking Harrogate for Holidays has raised over £1,700 for our children’s-based charity already, which is enough to send almost 4 families on free, weeklong holidays.
We aim to reach children and families throughout Yorkshire. Our services provide help to children who are disadvantaged, disabled, have life limiting illnesses or mental health issues, and children who have experienced trauma, abuse, or poverty. A holiday can mean so much to someone who wouldn’t usually receive one. A break in one of our homes gives a chance to experience new opportunities for children alongside families or carers to make memories that last.
