We’re shining a light on Jen this week, who started as the Trust’s Holiday Co-ordinator last month! Already, Jen has shown amazing enthusiasm and care in the very important role of co-ordinating our holiday homes in Blackpool and the Lake District and making sure the holidays run as smoothly as possible for the families and children we support.
Jen’s role is based around organising and allocating our holidays and talking to our special partners from a range of organisations and services that deal with vulnerable children. This means the process is as smooth and efficient as possible, to make sure the holiday homes are used to their max capacity.
Jen lives with her two children, Macey and Benjamin, and partner Sam. Although this is Jen’s first job that is based in the charity sector, she completed her A Level’s in Health and Social Care and it was here where her passion to help other people was cemented. Jen put her calling on hold in order to have her own children and be heavily involved in bringing them up, but as they are getting older, Jen felt that it is now time for her to put some focus into herself and her career and begin her journey with us here at The Principle Trust Children’s Charity. Jen ‘loves being a mum’ and says that having her own children means that she can empathise with others and feel connected with the families that we support.
A big part of being a Holiday Co-ordinator is communicating with our partners. Jen notes how so far, she has really enjoyed reaching out to and connecting with our referring partners in order to get a better understanding into what they do and how they provide help and support to children and families. She says that some stories are really sad and that some family circumstances are unimaginable, but this just gives Jen more determination to be able to help each and every single child and family.
Given the many levels to being a Holiday Co-ordinator, Jen says how she enjoys how interesting the role is. ‘There’s always stuff to do and it’s a really varied role. I love organising the holidays, but also enjoy liaising with the staff at both Marton Mere and White Cross Bay ensuring that the caravans and lodges are well looked after. I have visited both sites now and so I now have a really good understanding of what our holidays can offer. The upkeep and standards are really important to me.’
Jen notes how she wants to ‘do the best possible for families’, which is amplified when she sees stories first hand. Jen says how she adores receiving feedback and photos from families who have returned from a Trust holiday – and how motivating this can be.
The role is such a vital part of our charity, making sure the holidays are perfect and a special place for children to enjoy and make memories that last. ‘It’s so different to any other job I’ve had and I now get so much job satisfaction. I can now say that I LOVE MY JOB! It’s not just a job – it’s part my life.’
