How a Respite Break Helped a Family Begin Again

A family in need of space and calm

The family – a mum, her two children aged 6 and 13, and a close relative, had experienced trauma and upheaval that left them emotionally exhausted. Thanks to Three Nines Children’s Charity, they were able to enjoy a some precious time together in one of The Principle Trust’s coastal respite homes.

Our respite homes are designed to feel safe, familiar and comforting, a place where families can relax without pressure and begin reconnecting in their own time.

For this family, that sense of safety mattered deeply. The youngest child is autistic, and the quiet, predictable environment gave her the space she needed to feel calm and secure. For the first time in a long while, she could play, rest, and simply be herself.

Moments that brought joy back

Three Nines Children’s Charity went above and beyond to make the break special. The family received toys and theatre tickets to see The Wizard of Oz at Christmas, small gestures that created huge smiles and unforgettable memories.

Together, they:

• Walked on the beach

• Visited a local farm to see the animals

• Laughed, played and talked without the weight of everyday worries

Even the rain couldn’t dampen their spirits.

Mum shared:

“From what has been the most awful year in my forty years, some amazing memories were created with my children. It was a much-needed escape in what has been an extremely difficult time, and we were so grateful.”

With her sister by her side, she found new confidence too, realising that, with the right support, she could take her children away in the future.

“Thank you so much for restoring smiles and happiness for us. It will never be forgotten.”
