We’re incredibly proud to share an exciting milestone for The Principle Trust Children’s Charity – the opening of our third fully accessible respite holiday home, located at Haven Holiday Park in Primrose Valley, Filey.
This new home represents another important step forward in our mission to support vulnerable children and families across Yorkshire by giving them the opportunity to take a much-needed break from the daily challenges they face.
A Home Designed for Families with Complex Needs
The new respite home has been carefully adapted to support adults and children with complex medical conditions and physical disabilities, ensuring families can enjoy a safe, comfortable and accessible holiday environment.
Features of the home include:
Wheelchair ramp access
Wider doorways and sliding doors throughout
A ceiling-mounted bed trapeze in the main bedroom
A fully adapted wet room
Accommodation for up to four guests across two twin bedrooms
These adaptations help ensure families who often face barriers to travel can enjoy a restorative break together.
Making Respite Breaks More Accessible
Over the years, families we support have told us that travel costs can be one of the biggest barriers preventing them from taking a holiday. For many low-income families caring for children with additional needs, the cost and complexity of travelling long distances can make respite feel impossible.
By opening a home on the Yorkshire coast, we’re helping to reduce travel times and costs for families in East and South Yorkshire, making our respite breaks more accessible than ever.
This new location will also help us strengthen our partnerships with referral organisations across the region, ensuring families who need support most can access it.

Celebrating a Milestone Year
The opening of this new home is particularly special as it comes during a landmark year for the charity.
Since being founded in 2011 by Mike Davies MBE, The Principle Trust Children’s Charity has provided respite breaks for almost 6,000 children through our homes in Blackpool, Filey and the Lake District.
With this latest addition, we now own eight respite homes, enabling us to support around 308 families every year with life-changing breaks away from daily pressures.
