The Principle Trust Children’s Charity is celebrating the incredible fundraising efforts of pupils at Westville House School in Ilkley, who have raised an amazing £1,136.90 to support children and families across Yorkshire facing adversity.
Over the course of the academic year, the school’s dedicated Junior Leadership Team (JLT) organised a fantastic programme of fundraising events, inspiring the whole school community to get involved and make a difference.
Their fundraising calendar included:
- Valentine’s Bake Sale
- Christmas Movie Night
- Halloween Bake Sale
- Hockney Christmas Fair
- Bronte Easter House Fair
- Cook Summer Fun Day
Together, these events raised enough to provide two children and their families with a free week-long respite break and food hamper, giving them the opportunity to step away from the challenges they face, spend quality time together and create precious memories that will last a lifetime.
For The Principle Trust, there is something particularly special about seeing children choose to support other children.

There is something incredibly powerful about children choosing to support other children, and they should all be immensely proud of what they have achieved.”
Rebecca Mountain, Form One Teacher and Deputy Safeguarding Lead at Westville House School, added:
“We’re very proud of the children’s fundraising achievements this year. Putting in hard work to help others who may not be as fortunate as oneself is a valuable learning experience.”
The Principle Trust Children’s Charity provides free week-long respite breaks for children and families across Yorkshire facing adversity, including mental health challenges, trauma, poverty, abuse, serious illness and disabilities.
For many of the families supported by the charity, a holiday is simply out of reach. A respite break provides much more than time away, it offers families the opportunity to rest, reconnect, improve their wellbeing and make happy memories together during some of life’s most difficult moments.
This year is particularly significant for The Principle Trust as it celebrates its 15th anniversary. Since being founded in 2011, the charity has supported more than 6,000 children through free respite breaks, helping create brighter futures for families across Yorkshire.
Everyone at The Principle Trust would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the pupils, staff, parents and wider school community at Westville House School for their incredible generosity and commitment throughout the year.
Together, they are helping children facing adversity experience the joy of childhood and make memories that last.
