The Principle Trust Children’s Charity is delighted to announce a generous £5,000 donation from The Fence Club, helping to provide free respite breaks for children living with serious illness and the families who care for them.
The donation will fund 10 children and their families with a week-long respite break, giving them the opportunity to step away from the daily realities of hospital appointments, treatments and caring responsibilities to simply spend quality time together.
For families living with serious illness, a holiday is so much more than a break away. It offers precious moments to rest, reconnect and make happy memories that can last a lifetime.
Supporting Families When They Need It Most
The Principle Trust works closely with a trusted network of referral partners to ensure respite breaks reach the families who need them most.
Among these partners are Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, which provides specialist nursing care, hydrotherapy, creative therapies, family support, bereavement services and end-of-life care for children with life-shortening conditions, and Sunbeams, which supports children and young people experiencing the serious illness or loss of a loved one receiving care through Rotherham Hospice.
Together, these partnerships help identify families who would benefit enormously from time away from the pressures that serious illness can bring.
More Than Just a Holiday
Caring for a child with complex medical needs can be physically, emotionally and financially exhausting. Many families spend their days attending appointments, managing medication, navigating treatments and balancing the needs of siblings, often leaving little opportunity to simply enjoy being together.
A respite break gives families the chance to leave those daily pressures behind for a short while.
Whether it’s building sandcastles on the beach, enjoying a walk by the lake or sharing meals together without the backdrop of medical appointments, these simple moments become treasured memories.
The impact extends beyond parents too. Brothers and sisters, who can sometimes feel overlooked as attention is understandably focused on their sibling’s health, have the opportunity to feel included, have fun and create happy memories alongside the whole family.
These shared experiences help strengthen family relationships, improve wellbeing and provide comfort and resilience long after the holiday has ended.
