The Principle Trust Children’s Charity Delivers Toys to Airedale Hospital and Bradford’s Children Services…

The Principle Trust Children’s Charity delivered toys to Airedale Hospital and Bradford’s Children to ensure every child cared for had a gift for Christmas.

Initially, we teamed up with Airedale Hospital in response to their Christmas appeal for the donation of gifts such as colouring and puzzle books, pencils etc to give to child patients.

The Airedale Hospital supports children who require treatment for health problems such as, their heart (failure, murmurs etc), development, diabetes, deficiencies and growth, hematology, neurology and repository. The hospital also has a neo-natal ward for newborn babies and their mothers. This year, several children have been admitted with COVID-19

Routine hospital practice has been disrupted, including only being allowed to see one parent/care giver, which ultimately causes distress. We acknowledge that every child in Airedale Hospital has been disadvantaged as a result of the pandemic.

We also understood that many children in care homes would not receive a present for Christmas, so our mission was to deliver gifts to Bradford’s Children’s Services, who currently manage eight children’s homes, and it was a success!

Corporate Support

Nicki Higgins from CPOMS had reached out to ask how they could help for Christmas 2020 and at a similar time, so did SCAPA Healthcare. So, with Airedale Hospital’s appeal and Bradford’s Children’s Services in mind, the pieces fell into place!

Together, we supported children in hospital and across Bradford by donating gifts that brought smiles to children’s faces at Christmas.

To make things EVEN better, Simon Thomas, our Trustee, picked up the phone and to tell us he had sponsored the assembly of 20 Christmas Stockings filled with fun goodies for the children.

Community Support

It pleasingly came to our attention that a young lady named Katherine had been busy collecting gifts to donate to children who were less fortunate. We were put in touch with her mother Kelly, who explained how Kathryn worked with Ingleton community to support her quest to gather toys. Altogether, a total of SIXTY FOUR gifts were collected and donated. WOW. That surely has to be a record of some kind. Well done Katherine on your great work!

In response to support received, Kirsty Randell, Matron for Children’s Services at Airedale Hospital said: “We are extremely grateful for the gifts provided by Principle and their supporters for our young patients.  It’s not easy being in hospital at any time, let alone over Christmas, but these gifts and puzzle books will make all the difference to the children in our care over the festive period.

“An enormous thank you from all of us here at Airedale to everyone who has supported this appeal to give children in our hospital a happier Christmas.  Your generosity is very much appreciated, and we wish you a very Merry Christmas!”
