‘The Thompson’ Family Story

We received a request for a holiday via another charity, who explained the circumstances of the Thompson family.

The child’s mother cared for her husband, who suffered badly from a painful condition called fibromyalgia. Simultaneously, she worked hard to raise and care for their child, a toddler with complex health problems.

Caring for loved ones such through hardships is a selfless yet rewarding thing to do, but of course it can be emotionally demanding – sometimes putting a toll on family life.  

The Thompson family was in need of a break away from daily life and pressures, and The Principle Trust Children’s Charity put forward a holiday for this admirable family; a caravan located in Blackpool.

After their holiday, we received a heart-warming letter from Mrs Thompson…

“We would like to thank you so very much, we really appreciate you giving us this opportunity for a 7-night holiday on a fantastic site that all of us would like to visit again, giving us a chance to relax and distress at a pace we choose, giving us time away from day-to-day life. It has allowed our two-year-old to be a child and build childhood memories in turn, allowing mummy and daddy to relax seeing our son get a lot out of this.

It was just great to get away as a family and we were able to do this at minimal expense. Holidays are not something we can afford to do, in fact our holiday in Blackpool was our first holiday together. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.”

She went on to explain how the holiday had a lasting, positive impact. “It was amazing having a few days off and escaping from the stress and having memories to look back on. When you’re dealing with so much in your life a holiday is so important for your mental health and wellbeing.”
