We’re absolutely delighted to share that our third annual Rugby4Respite tournament has raised an incredible £7,250 for The Principle Trust Children’s Charity – enough to provide 12 families with a free week-long respite break and food hamper.
Held on Sunday 19th April at Ilkley RFC, Stacks Field, this year’s event was our biggest and best yet, with 22 teams taking part in a fantastic day of fast-paced tag rugby, family fun and community fundraising.
Teams battled it out in five-minute, five-a-side matches, with spectators cheering from the sidelines as the competition progressed from the group stages through to an exciting grand final. With more than 100 participants of all abilities taking part, the day perfectly captured the spirit of friendly competition, teamwork and community support.
Since launching in 2024, Rugby4Respite has gone from strength to strength and has now raised an incredible £20,000 overall, helping 33 families access a much-needed respite break.
More than just rugby
The day wasn’t just about what happened on the pitch.
Families enjoyed a brilliant range of activities throughout the event including raffles, games, bouncy castles, face painting and children’s mini games. We were also delighted to welcome local police cars and fire crews, which proved incredibly popular with children attending.
A huge thank you also goes to Crumbs, the Silsden-based business that kept everyone fuelled throughout the day with delicious cakes and Yorkshire pudding wraps.
We were also honoured to welcome Robbie Moore MP, who kindly joined us to present trophies to this year’s winners.

Why it matters
At The Principle Trust Children’s Charity, we provide free week-long respite breaks to children across Yorkshire facing adversity, including mental health challenges, trauma, abuse, poverty, serious illness and disability.
Through our eight respite homes across Blackpool, Filey and the Lake District, families are given the opportunity to rest, reconnect and create precious memories together.
Since being founded in 2011 by Mike Davies MBE, we’ve supported almost 6,000 children, and now help over 308 families every year.
Because of our 100% donations policy, every penny of profit raised through events like Rugby4Respite goes directly towards supporting children and families who need it most.
